Well-known for its historical buildings, parks and monuments, Lexington is a town in Middlesex County, Massachusetts, United States.

First settled in 1642 as the Cambridge Farms parish of Cambridge, Massachusetts, Lexington was incorporated as a separate town in 1713. There have been speculations of how the name was derived. Some people say that it was named in the honor of Lord Lexington while others say it was named after Laxton in Nottinghamshire, England.

Lexington has always been a farming community and has been providing much of its produce to Boston. Lexingtons downtown area is known to be one of the busiest places till today.

Due to the high-tech boom in 1960s and 70s, Lexington experienced a jump in population. Property values escalated and the school system got positive reviews all over United States.

The first battle of the American Revolutionary War was fought in Lexington. Lexington observes Patriots Day on the third Monday of April annually.

According to Newsweek, Lexington High School was recently ranked the 304th best high school in America. Minuteman Regional High School is another school that is considered to be one of the best in Lexington.

Completed on July 4, 1799, the Revolutionary Monument is the nations oldest war memorial and the gravesite of the colonists killed in the Battle of Lexington. Lexington is also home to the 900-acre Minute Man National Historical Park and the National Heritage the National Heritage Museum which showcases exhibits on history and popular culture.

Lexingtons town center is famous for its restaurants, fine art galleries, retail shopping centers, theatres, Cary Memorial Library, the Minuteman Bikeway and Depot Square.

Meriam Hill, Irish Village, Loring Hill, Belfry Hill, the Manor Section, and East Village are the famous Lexingtons neighborhoods.
