Self Help Books Are A Boon

Through self-help books one teaches oneself to be economically, emotionally and intellectually mature and independent. The whole process has a lot of psychological as well as spiritual base.

Self help books inculcate in the reader the spirit of self-reliance. There are of course likeminded support groups to lean on. It is not a partnership of dependence but of co-operation. Examples can be given of self-help legal practice, homespun advices and many more. In course of time self-help books are leading guides in the field of education as well as business. Psychology plays an important part in the writings of these self-help books. These books have led to self-help movements.

According to prominent psychiatrists the self-help books are quite distinct from the professional counterparts. The latter cannot provide friendship, emotional prop up, first hand experimental knowledge, self-identity, roles in life with a meaning and above all a sense of being belonged. Self-help books links people with any kind of health condition. It is especially applicable to those who are mentally unstable. However everything does not work for everyone. The same applies to these self-help books. People going through similar travails form lobby groups and by sharing problems many knots are untied. Actually self-help books bring about link with like minded people – contact between peers.

The self-help books are based on an ancient concept of autosuggestion. It is repeating to one self the magic words of `I can! I can!` The books are getting worldwide acclaim from humble beginnings. Self-help legal services are also expanding. The Internet is now an invaluable tool for the popularizing of self-help books. On a gigantic scale free information is being provided leading to self-empowerment.

The self-help concept, now being codified in books, has a long history. It goes back to 2,500 BC when we first come across the advice poems of Hesiod. It is an adaptation of Eastern philosophy and thought. The Stoics of Greece offered similar advice of awakening the powers of the self. The ideas are expressed in ancient proverbs of different cultures of the world from time immemorial. The word self-help found a place in legal parlance when it came to be acknowledged that a person has the right to plead his own case in court of law.

Nothing talks about self-help more lucidly than the famous saying `Heaven helps those who help themselves`. Samuel Smiles in the late 19th century authored the first book on personal development. The title was Self Help. This principle of self-help or autosuggestion is used widely in the treatment of curing alcoholics and the like. It is the self that cures and the self that destroys. It is a question of awakening the self. These self-help books advise certain techniques to achieve this goal.

In this field of work Dale Carnegie is a famous name in the first half of the 20th century. In 1936 he published his all time best seller – How to Win Friends and Influence People. It reflected his own successful battle against repeated failures. So far 50 million copies have been sold and continues to sell captivating each new generation. Think and Grow Rich by Napoleon Hill also hit the market inspiring people about the power of thought.

Researches show that self-help books have captured the market in a big way covering a wide variety of topics form weight loss to friendship gain. One can teach oneself how to become even a politician and win laurels. There are critics who say that these are easy answers to difficult questions that cannot be really implemented.

You need to increase your motivation so you can persist on getting the body you want. Motivation just happens to be one of the largest problems people face trying to hit their goals. That is no surprise…

1. Results take some time to come: Even with the best designed program, it takes at least a month to see some visible results. That is not long but it sure can feel that way.

2. You gain weight at first: If you are smart, you are weight training… and you might be surprised to see that you put on a little weight to begin with. That is before the massive fat loss.

3. You body is in constant pain: The first week to two weeks, you will have to get used to weight training and exercising… not the best feeling when you are not used to it.

These can be tough to handle at first, especially when you are new to fitness — however, when you stick it out for at least 1 month, you will be blown away with the tighter, slimmer body.

The 4 ways to increase your fitness motivation:

1. Support

Having a support group, somebody to turn to, is one of the most influential ways to keep your motivation consistently increasing. How many times have you turned to friends or family when you needed support?

The key to getting the motivation support groups can provide is to participate. You actually need to use the support group. It may be difficult to open up to strangers, but know that these people are probably going through the same thing you are.

2. Accountability

Accountability goes hand in hand with support groups. You need to find people to hold you accountable. Bear in mind, this means opening up and sharing your goals and making a public commitment to reaching them.

First things first when it comes to accountability… you need to tell somebody you fitness goals and assign a time line to them. Now you are on the hook and need to pull through.

3. Inspiration

Time and time again, inspiration is all around you… have you ever paid attention to it? That is why having “like minded” people for you to associate with delivers the goods. You will find people who have been where you are and have succeeded.

These people are your inspiration. You can look up to them and use them has an example that it can be done. Consult and use these people… allow them to become your mentor.

4. Competition

Do you have the competitive spirit? Do you want to have that feeling of victory?

Create some friendly competitions with other people who share similar stages. You can not only push each other, but let the thirst for results push you to faster action.

The competitive fire is a great catalyst for action and making the fitness lifestyle part of your life.

Use these tips to stoke the fitness motivation and keep things going when you might be feeling the drain. Learn to always tap into fitness motivation and use it to set new goals.

Tips for Making Yourself Better

There are a few things that successful people do, that many other do not. One of thing I’ve learned is that it is important to keep the company of good people. I personally don’t mind if everyone in the room is smart than me. You want to take advantage of having smart people in your corner. Make effort to know people who are smart and successful. Keep company that is consistent and self motivated. In return, you will look good because you are surrounding yourself with successful people. If you’re in charge of hiring, don’t worry about the risk of losing your job to the new guy. Actively hire the absolute best guy you can find, because they’ll make you look good.

Being successful when you run your own business is a challenge. You are your own boss and many times, your only employee. To do well in business, you must constant work on self improvement. You must understand that you are imperfect and work constantly to improve yourself. Discover your weakness and make concentrated effort on improving them.

Work to remove the traits and habits that hold you back, while working to improve your strengths. Your strengths will soon become second nature and habits. Once you’ve reached this point, make a new list of weaknesses and strengths to improve and start over. You are never perfect, so this path of self improvement never ends. You will see your success in life sky rocket though, as you live more effectively.

Be sure to never let peer pressure get in the way of improving yourself. You will always have negative people in your life and will always have people trying to steer you off course. Do not allow people to tear you down. Do not let anyone stop you from what you feel in your heart is a good opportunity. Your life is your own, so are your successes and failures, so own your own life. Live in your own success and failures, not those of your friends and family.

Only you are responsible for your success and welfare. You must pay your own bills, plan for your retirement, and your kid’s college. Nobody will do this for you, so why allow other to dictate how you plan for these. Success is in grasp for anyone willing to try for it. Simple stand on your own, constantly work to improve yourself, take risks, and do not allow fear or judgment to stop you. Do not get discourage. Sometimes success takes time, but do not quit. You can be great, no doubt, but the choice is yours.

If You Life Were Like A Song – What Would It Be?

We all can think of our own lives as a song. Some are cheerful, some are successful, some are about love, and a multitude of differences. Some may find life is like many songs. The good thing about personal development is that if you are not happy with the song, you can change it!

Music has been with humanity since the dawn of time. We have felt compelled to put those feelings and emotions into what we call music, and songs. They take a book of words, and transform them into something more. Something we can relate with.

Songs are important, and we can see this. Some songs make us laugh and some make us cry. You will also find that music can make you remember about times in the past, and possibly of what is to come.

I wanted to write to you today specifically about this. You may not realize the importance here, but by time you read this, you should have an understanding. You see, it is only when we can understand where we are, before we can change.

I realized this some time ago, and my successes started to come. It was not the mindset, and every other facet. It was being realistic about where you are, before you can move forward to where you want to get to.

This morning I was on my walk and I realized that life can be put into songs. Now I know that throughout life, we will have different songs that could represent our lives. When we fall in love, when we find success, even when we are right at the bottom, and also when we are trying to rise back up.

Usually these songs can become apparent in our lives. For example, if you listen to CD’s or even music online, you may find that you will have different songs which apply to your mood at the time. Now this does not work so much with a regular radio station where the songs are chosen for you.

Even though our moods change, and so does the songs, we can find by looking at the past, and present, how our lives have been so far. We may have a song that matches the beat of your life.

And when you can do this, and find that song, realize you have hit a milestone. This milestone is important, because you can consider whether you like that song. Do you want that song to represent your life?

At this point, you can decide whether you like the song or if it needs changing. Sometimes we need to be a bit cautious. We can look at lives with a focus of positive or negative. Both of these could be contrary to the truth.

Consider you life truthfully. We can often find ourselves in a bad position, and believe that the whole of life is like that. With a bit of introspection, and meditation, you just may find the song that speaks about your life, and how you like it.
