Everyone loves fast food these days. In fact, it has already become a part of our life. A lot of people have adapted this kind of lifestyle. To some people, they will have fast food for all the three meals.

In the past, fast food is considered something expensive and not many people will be able to eat them. However, the situation has been changed these days. Fast food is considered something inexpensive and this is also one of the reasons to have more fast food. As a matter of fact, we are very busy nowadays and we tend to have our meals very fast. Potatoes – The World’s Preferred Vegetable

Potatoes, undoubtedly win the crown for the world’s most preferred vegetable. Whichever cuisine or whatever part of the world you are in, potatoes is one sure thing that you would find to eat. There are many people whom I have met who find it very difficult to adjust to the cuisine of a particular place while travelling. The potato then is the most preferred and the first choice that provides you the scope of satiating your hunger pangs.

The preparation may differ from one cuisine to the other, however, the versatility of this superb vegetable does not cease to surprise you. From the mashed potatoes, the popular french fries to being an important ingredient of stews to the indispensable “Aloo” (potato) of the Indian cuisine, potatoes definitely are an omnipresent vegetable. The potato sure has many floored with its charm all across the globe.

There is however, a general perception or rather a misconception among some that potatoes are not good for health and must be avoided on a regular basis. However, this is definitely not true. Potatoes are the best known source of carbohydrates in the world. It is not the potato that is injurious to health it is the techinique of cooking it that makes it good or bad. Deep fried potato dishes are a definite no…no. Now that does not apply to potatoes alone. Deep fried dishes made with any vegetable or meat is not good for health if consumed on a regular basis. It is the cooking style of deep frying that makes it unhealthy and the potato is surely not to be blamed.

So it’s back to our very own favorite the potato. You can now eat the potato without any worries provided you pay a little attention to the way you cook it. And as I always highlight everything in moderation is fine…just see that you do not go overboard.

Potato chips are definitely the world’s preferred and the most popular snack. You just can’t stop at one, that is for sure. However, it is only when you have finished off half the packet or maybe the whole thing that the evil guilt strikes. Loads of oil and salt…how can you resist the great taste. The most popular brand of potato chips – “Lay’s” now introduces a low salt version “a pinch of salt” to let you handle your guilt and health better and munch away.

The news of the Lay’s company introducing potato chips with low sodium must definitely come as welcome news to all chip lovers. The “Pinch of Salt” the new entry on Lay’s line of snacks has 75 milligrams of sodium per ounce of serving as compared to 180 milligrams in the regular pack. That definitely is good news for those who just can’t stop munching. The low sodium variety for one thing does not compromise on taste, so you do not have to give up on taste for those health benefits. Warning : Munching uncontrallably on high calorie snacks is injurious to health. Anything and everything in moderation is advisable (being a health freak I just couldn’t resist adding the warning note).

The potato definitely is the universal ambassador propagating the strongly the idea that “if you are good, you can take on the world”. Guess that is one way to look at the potato:).

Is It Time To Join A Wine Club?

Wine is just not a beverage or a drink. Winemaking is a craft that has refined and evolved over the centuries and lent its magic touch to the tables of generations of people. To many people wine is much more than a drink; it is a passionate hobby that traces the creation of the wine from the formation of the grape, the juicing to the final wait as the wine matures in its wooden casks. Wine clubs have come into existence as a means of sharing knowledge bout the wines. They usually offer a selection of wines directly from the manufacturer. The internet has opened up new avenues in understanding and appreciating wine as it has connected the buyer, the seller and the manufacturer, and perhaps, even the growers.

There are wine experts in the wine club who give advice and share their experiences. The members can ask questions about the wines, receive guidance from the wine-expert or the winemaker about how it is to be served, preserved, presented and what food accompanies it. Amateur wine lovers can learn that about process of wine making, which involves the fermentation of grape juice changes it chemistry and converts it partly to alcohol. Winemakers have spent lifetimes in perfecting this craft and achieving that perfect taste and blend.

A wine club is thus a great way for a novice to get acquainted with the kinds of wines including rare wines and vintage collections as well as acquiring knowledge about the pricing and labels of the wines. Such clubs send out a few bottles of wine every month so that the members can savour the different kinds of wines, from the famous white wines of California to the vast variety in Italy to the sparking reds and rose wines from France.

Wine clubs thus make various kinds of wines accessible and provide a platform to exchange information about wines. Wines also make wonderful gifts and wine clubs arrange the delivery of these in decorative wine baskets.

Some wine clubs also arrange tours to the vineyards so that the members can comprehend the process and taste the wine straight from the wine maker. Since wine is an natural product, the final taste depends not only on the grapes that are used, but the climate, the soil, the method used, including the kind of wood used in the casks that they are preserved in, and the time used for maturation. Apart from this, there are many blends used to create the perfect blend.

Understanding the intricate methods employed in winemaking and tracing its history enhances the experience of drinking the wine. Winemaking had its origins in France and war almost wiped out the knowledge of wine-making. The monks who cultivated the vineyards and stored the wine in the cellars under the monasteries kept the wine making craft alive. For a long time after, the wines from monasteries were considered of superior quality and commanded better prices. A good wine club is an excellent way to acquire and appreciate wine.

Guess that explains the popularity of the french fries which crosses over all physical and age barriers. The Mc fries are truly one irresistible dish for me.

I have this unwritten rule at home for my daughter. Vegetables whatever be the preparation is a must have on a daily basis. Being a fussy eater or more a vegetable fussy eater she finds it real hard to fulfill my requirements of eating vegetables everyday. Anyway being the dictator mom I am when it comes to eating, she has to eat it anyway. The surprise element is that she too loves potatoes. On days when I the vegetable is the potato she finishes her food without a word. In fact, she has gone to the extent of not including potatoes in the category of “vegetables”. Cooking with potatoes too is also a lot of fun for me with the numerous options that are available. From baking, frying , boiling to currying it, I must admit that for me too it’s a fun vegetable.
