How To Overcome Some Disadvantages Of Low-Cost Notebooks
With all the powerful features come built in with the modern notebook computers, they are threatening the very existence of their desktop alternatives. The modern consumers have practically run out of good reasons to buy desktop computers as they can find all the essential features available with the notebook with no dramatic difference in the prices. Well, despite how close the notebook computers have come to their desktop replacements, some of us still need one or more features which may not be found in the notebooks.
However, this is not a very good reason why you should buy a desktop computer while you can get the same features and even more in a notebook at the same price. I have seen many users complain about the small screen size, absence of DVD burners, and other stuff like that which some standard low-cost notebooks might not have. However, the good news is you can always upgrade your notebook with any accessories you want. Let`s talk about a bit about the common features people have been heard complaining about and how to solve these problems easily.
DVD Burner: Some people crib that the notebook doesn`t have a DVD burner. If you are one of them then you can buy an external DVD burner and connect it with your notebook via the USB port. You will be ambushed with a galaxy of DVD burners; however, you can count on Hewlett-Packard DC4000 External DVD RW Writer. It can convert video from different formats such as Betamax, Digital8, VHS and Hi8. It also works as any other standard DVD writer and burns music, data, photos to DVD and CD. While taking a DVD burner take care of the compatibility of the accessory with your notebook.
Flat-LCD Screen: Few prefer watching their favourite action flicks on your notebook; blame it on the small screen. Take home a Flat- LCD screen monitor and watch your favourite movies in the virtual theatre surroundings. You can search and check for different Flat screen LCDs available and compare their prices. Also check for the contrast ratio, resolution and scanning frequency.
Musical Experience: Listening to music on the tinny notebook speakers is hardly interesting to any music lover. If you are suffering from this problem, buy your notebook a pair of speakers, preferably a model that comes with 5.1 speaker system with Dolby Digital and DTS Hardware decoding. It will offer you superlative sound quality both for listening to your favourite music and watching your favourite movies on your notebook.
Notebook Keyboard: Using the keyboard of the notebook can be tiring and painful for your fingers. How often have you ended up with your finger experiencing an unusual pressure? Even the notebook users may have experienced the generated heat on their hand. An additional keyboard is the best solution for it. You can enjoy the functionality from a wireless keyboard with a separate media pad for accessing. The keyboard combo is also available with a wireless optical mouse have great sensitivity of movements. Keyboards of varied types are available; just you need to find the best for you.
USB Mobile Port Replicator: Of course you are taking a notebook to take it with you wherever you go. But where are you going to plug in all these accessories if you are taking it to some other place. You can`t afford every time to plug them out while moving and plug in again while using. You can sort the problem out with an USB mobile port replicator. Whatever you need to plug into your laptop you can plug into it and plug in the USB mobile port replicator to your notebook.

Do You Need More Wireless on Your Laptop?
Wireless laptop computers are the best! Who can argue with the portability of a laptop computer compared to a desktop computer, and then add the ability to go wireless? Who wouldn’t go for that. Having a wireless laptop computer allows you to get things done just about anywhere, it is just a continuation of the de-centralization of the office place. There are a lot of different kinds of wireless technologies out there. The different technologies all do different things, and all cost different amounts. When you’re going to look into wireless laptops, here is some of the things to consider.
New computers are all coming with built in WiFi. Because of this standard, for the average user a new computer is all you need to have your wireless capabilities. The new computers have built in wi-fi that enables it to connect to the internet in a flash without a modem or NIC cards. A wireless laptop when powered up will search on its own for connectivity. This wireless capability allows you to get online at certain Internet capable hotspots in different areas.
There are however, other types of access that you can add on to your laptop.
Mobile broadband offers high speed data connectivity. Mobile broadband does come at a price premium. Typically, you need to sign up with a provider in much the same way that you sign up for a cellular service. Most of the people that you can get your cell service from offer broadband wireless capability. And, in much the same way that you sign up with a contract you do the same thing with your wireless broadband. Price ranges can vary, but typically you sign up for a year contract and pay monthly anywhere from 50 to 80 bucks a month. Depending on your area of this can be higher. The real benefit is that you are just about getting regular Internet service. The upload and download speeds are going to be faster, and this kind of connection is more secure.
With mobile broadband, you can also download larger email attachments and download complex files. The mobile broadband technology is more powerful and 10 times faster than the dial up technology that gives internet connection through your computer.
The wireless laptop computers with wi-fi connectivity allow you dual band connectivity at a public space or in the office to a local area network. The wireless cards can communicate with access points or routers. It acts like devices that send data back and forth with an antenna over the airwaves. What this means is that as long as there is a wireless router in the area, and you have access, you can connect to a local area network, or your company’s network and work on that network in real time. If you are using public access, you do need to be aware that you expose yourself to the potential that someone may hack into your computer. It is a good idea to install and use some kind of firewall protection.
There are also wireless laptops that have Bluetooth to enhance the rate of data through wireless technology. This Bluetooth technology would allow you to transfer the music and video files and also documents between your laptops and other personal devices. The introduction of Bluetooth is a new phase in the laptop world. It is very common to see a Bluetooth headset in your cell phones. Bluetooth integrating in the laptop is starting a new era in laptops. Keep in mind that your computer needs to be Bluetooth capable to utilize the Bluetooth technology. Many computers are coming standard with Bluetooth technology, but it is important to check.
Ultimately, the standard WiFi capability that a laptop comes with is plenty for the average user. With that capability you can jump onto hotspots, and if you have a wireless router in your home, you can tap into your high-speed Internet connection. For those that are using a computer for business, the broadband mobile card is a technology you may want to look into. Just make sure that the card will fit into your USB ports, or your laptop is enabled with the broadband card slot.

Used Laptops: The Right Choice For You?
Many people are afraid of buying a used laptop because the don’t think it will be as reliable as a new one. Without the protection a warranty offers, this can be a rather daunting prospect. However, if you want a great value, and don’t the the latest and great performance, getting your next laptop used can be a great idea.
If you buy a new laptop, you can think of it like buying a new car. The first time you roll off the lot with the new car, it will be very shiny, and all your friends will “ooh” and “ah.” Same with the laptop. As time goes on, you will start to see a lot of other people with the same laptop/car, and it will start to loose much of its initial luster.
People will start to get newer, shinier, and better cars/laptops, but you’ll still be stuck with the old one. You might start thinking about selling this old laptop, and get a nice fancy new one again. However, you’ll find out soon enough that, as with a used car, you won’t get nearly the same value out of it as you would like, even though its not even that old and works fine in general.
What if you could be on the other side of this exchange, and you were the one getting the great deal on the laptop? This is the same principle as buying a used car, and buying your next laptop used will get you the exact same type of value. Why not let that other guy take the big depreciation hit? Of course, you have no warranty, but the price is so low that it won’t likely matter. You will still win in the end.
One of the neatest things about buying used laptops is that you can get some very inexpensive old models that are perfect for basic applications such as internet, e-mail, and office. My favorite laptop for these uses are IBM Thinkpads, because of their ruggedness. Buy one of these at a low price, reinstall the operating system, and you’ve got yourself a great little portable workstation.
If you’re a gamer, you can even get a nice little portable gaming rig. It won’t play the latest and greatest games, but with a used Alienware laptop or something similar, you can play many great classic games on the road, with a machine that doesn’t have the same crushing price tag as a new gaming laptop would.
So, is a used laptop right for you? For most people, the answer to this is probably yes. Most people over inflate the risk of the laptop breaking on them, which leads to lower demand, and thus lower prices, for used laptops. If you need the best and fastest, by all means buy new, but if you’re just looking for the basics, give used a try.
David Wilson loves his laptops, and invites you to visit Used Cheap Laptops Central to get some great deals on all brands of used laptops, including used Alienware laptops, used Apple laptops, and more.

Paper Notebooks to Laptop Notebooks – A Scientific Renaissance
When we hear the word `notebook` the first thought that strikes our grey matter is a writing device in the form of a book usually made of paper. We generally imagine it in various forms like notepad, writing pad, or simply a scrapbook. Its use is generally determined by its size – not forgetting the general saying `the smaller, the better`.
The concept (of notebooks) which started as a collection of leaves somewhere in ancient Rome has today taken the shape of a latest electronic device called the `laptop`. Laptops were named `notebooks` probably because of their small size inspite of the fact that originally they did not have any note-taking ability.
Initially laptops had integrated screen and keyboard and were more like `suitcase computers` but with advancements in technology they kept getting smaller in size with enhanced features. Laptops were referred to as notebooks when they had condensed in size comparable almost to a paper notebook. Moving a step further we got something called PDA`s (Personal Digital Assistants) which were a little larger than portfolio notebooks and were named `notebook` to differentiate them from general laptops. In common man`s words these were called `Palm tops`.
The quest for comfort did not end with the PDA`s. Moving a step further we got a much better and advanced version of PDA s called the `Tablet PC`s`. Tablet PC`s are laptops or rather notebooks that have a special pen and software with which we can interact with the screen directly. So it was a kind where we can actually write on with a pen – a real master piece in the world of science! Here the screen itself is used as the Input-Output device rather than the Mouse or the Keyboard. Moreover these PDA`s and Palmtops use flash memory and they do not use the same OS or hardware as used by the typical laptop and notebooks.
Today notebook refers to laptops that can have their windows reversed to make it into a notebook and can be written on like a tablet. It can be used for making handwritten notes in class or to make sketches and drawings that can later be used as notes.
What makes the notebook indispensable is its portability, efficiency coming next to it. Today we are not under the constraints of working for fixed hours in office; our work can come home with us, thus, providing us with a more comfortable and relaxed environment. Other than that the notebook occupies the least possible space on the desk and saves us from the tangles of wires. To top it all the sleek, sensuous look of the portable notebooks makes it the most desirable asset today.
As the saying goes, if you want to gain something you should be ready to lose some too. Here the loosing factor comes in the face of money. This piece of sophisticated technology is twice as expensive as its desktop counterpart or sometimes even more than that. But since all good things come in small packages, the notebook as well should be accepted with its exorbitant price realizing the fact that it is paving the way for a simpler and efficient future.
Despite the notebooks being smaller and elegant, it is a bitter fact that it can never completely take over the desktop. The reason being the deficiency of space to fit in all the components and the lack of escape routes for heat. Moreover upgrading the hardware in a notebook becomes an overpriced task and can be done much easily and reasonably in a desktop.
Inspite of these various shortcomings the fact remains that the era of literature and arts has been succeeded by the scientific era with computer being at the centre of this renaissance.
